YORK FACTS

Dame Judi Dench began her acting career treading the boards at the Theatre Royal in York.

York Minster is the only Cathedral to have its own police force, initiated after the fire of 1829.

Anne Boleyn is said to haunt the corridors of King’s Manor. She came to York shortly after her marriage to Henry VIII.

The observatory in Museum Gardens once housed the largest refracting telescope in the world.

The city walls are three miles long and are the best preserved in England.
